Whether it’s taking a stroll down Forsyth Park or taking in the waterfront views, there’s never a shortage of things to do or see in the great city of Savannah.
Of course, the quickest way to get around the city would be to drive. If it’s about that time for you to get your driver’s license, there’s some steps you’ll need to follow first.
How To Get Your Driver’s License in Savannah
The steps you’ll take to get your driver’s license in Savannah will depend on how old you are.
If You’re Under 18
If you’re under 18 but at least 16, you may be able to apply for a Class D license known as a provisional driver's license. To be eligible, you need to have held your CP learner's permit for at least one year and one day. You also need to have a clean driving record without any major violations that resulted in suspensions. Further, you need to satisfy the courses outlined in the Joshua Law Requirements.
If you're eligible, you should first fill out the Online License/ID/Permit form. Then, you'll need to schedule a road test. Before showing up on your appointment day, be sure to bring the documents listed above as well as:
Your permit
Your Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program (ADAP) or (eADAP) certificate of completion
Proof that you are enrolled in school
Certificate of completion of a DDS-approved drivers education course that satisfies Joshua's Law Requirement
A parent, guardian, responsible adult, or authorized driving instructor to sign your license form, with paperwork showing their relationship to you
At your appointment, be ready to show your documents, take a vision exam, take the road skills test, take a photo, and pay the license fee.
If You’re Over 18
If you're at least 18 years old, you can apply for a Class C license. You'll need to schedule an appointment if you're going to take the road test. Before going in, ensure you have the following documents:
Proof of U.S. Citizenship or lawful status in the U.S.
Proof of residency
Proof of Social Security number
Money for the license fee
Any driver's license, permit, or ID you have from another state (it will be surrendered)
When you go in, be prepared to show your documents, take a vision exam, take a photo, pass a knowledge exam, and pass the road skills test. Note, the knowledge exam and road skill test are only required if you're obtaining a license for the first time.
