What You Need to Get Your Learners Permit in Florida

If you’ve never gotten a driver's license before and you’re under 18 years old, you’ll need to get a learner’s license first. A learner’s license, also known as a learner’s permit, gives you the ability to drive under limited circumstances until you’re eligible for a full drivers license.

To get a learners permit, Florida requires:

  • Applicants must be at least 15 years old.
  • A signed and notarized Parental Consent Form for applicants under 18 years old.
  • Proof of identity.
  • Proof of residential address.
  • Proof of social security number.
  • Completion of the TLSAE Florida Drug & Alcohol course.
  • Pass a hearing and vision test.
  • Pass the Class E knowledge permit exam.

The learners permit test has 50 multiple-choice questions. You’ll need to get a score of 80% or higher, which means you’ll need to get at least 40 questions correct. Once you pass you can get a Florida learners permit and start getting practice behind the wheel.

What is Covered in the TLSAE Florida Drug & Alcohol Course

Florida requires that all individuals who are getting a permit take a state-authorized Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) course. The 4-hour TLSAE course from DriversEd.com covers:

  • Road rules
  • Road signs
  • Driving in inclement weather
  • Driving with poor road conditions
  • Avoiding collisions
  • Sharing the road with other drivers

It’s all the information you need to fulfill the TLSAE requirement. Engaging, interactive features make the course interesting - plus, you can complete the course any time, anywhere on any device!
