• Most people in Colorado attend a driving school at some point of their life. Some do it as teenagers, before applying for a drivers license. Others choose to attend a driving school as adults, looking to acquire some advanced driving skills. Here are some things to keep in mind when deciding on a driving school.

    • Which course do you need?

The first thing you must do is find out if the course you require is actually offered at the driving school—if you want to take driving school to complete DMV requirements as a first time teen driver or if you're simply looking to brush up on your driving skills as an adult. Also, find out what form the course takes. Most driving schools specialize in certain courses. Make sure you find what's best for you.

    • Licensed and Certified

Once you have located a few driving schools that offer courses that suit you, make sure they are properly licensed. In Colorado driving schools are regulated by the Department of Revenue and are required to hold liability insurance and keep all records for inspection. All vehicles used for training must also be subjected to annual inspections. The instructors must pass a qualifying examination that includes a written test and a driving exam.

Make sure the school you choose is properly certified and has all required papers. You can also contact the Department of Revenue and request to check a particular driving school. They will confirm if the school is certified to provide driving instruction services.

    • Your Instructor

And don't forget to ask about the extent of the instructor's experience. Many times, an experienced instructor can make all the difference in the quality of the training. Experienced instructors know how to anticipate your needs and know how to handle the questions and problems that new drivers face. Experienced instructors are often the difference between a good driving experience and an uneasy one.
