Headlights and Communication With Others

You have several ways to communicate with other road users. You can use your horn when necessary to avoid collisions. Never honk if slowing or stopping your vehicle will prevent a collision. It's safer to just use the brakes. You can also use your headlights. You may have to flash your headlights under certain circumstances to get the attention of another driver who may not see you.

Turn on your hazard lights (also called emergency flashers) to show a hazard or collision is ahead or if you are having trouble with your vehicle.

Always signal your intentions before making a turn or pulling away from the curb, and watch for other drivers' signals.
