Non-drivers are also asked to show identification in certain circumstances. Therefore, it is important for these individuals to obtain a state-approved I.D. card.
The requirements for applying for an I.D. card are similar to the application requirements for a drivers license or instruction permit. For identification purposes, please present a current Minnesota drivers license, instruction permit, or state-issued I.D. card. If one of these items is not available, you may also present an expired drivers license, instruction permit, or state-issued I.D. card (if it expired less than five years ago and has a photo or expired less than one year ago without a photo).

If the items listed above are not available, you must show two other forms of identification. One should list your full legal name and full date of birth. If your name has changed since the issuance of these legal documents, you must present proof of a legal name change (marriage certificate, court order, etc.).
