To get your learner’s permit through PennDOT, you’ll need to:
Step 1: Download and complete Form DL-180 (Medical Qualification Certificate) with your doctor
Step 2: Have a parent or guardian sign the required section (must be notarized if not present)
Step 3: Provide your Social Security card (not just the number) and proof of age as listed on the form
Step 4: Pass a vision test
Step 5: Pass the knowledge test (our course includes multiple practice tests to help you prepare)
Pennsylvania teens between 16½ and 18 years old can qualify for a junior license after holding a learner’s permit for at least 6 months with no accidents or violations. A parent or guardian must certify on Form DL-180C that the teen has completed 65 hours of supervised driving — including 10 hours at night and 5 in adverse weather — and they must follow state junior license restrictions.
Our Pennsylvania theory course, provided through Henry & Joe’s Driving School and approved by the PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, meets state requirements and is available entirely online. It’s a great option for students anywhere in Pennsylvania — from major cities like Pittsburgh, Allentown, Erie, and Philadelphia to smaller towns like York, Easton, and Harrisburg.
*Your certificate of completion will come from Henry & Joe's Driving School
