Well, I dare to claim that driving is a team game too, and you have to be a player to handle it: you have to know the rules , consider your teammates and constantly improve your technique . And it turns out that for many drivers, handling the teammates (other road users) is the hardest part of all.
Uncontrolled emotions and irresponsible driving can have bad consequences–not just for the offender, but also for other innocent people who happen to be around.
Drunk driving is an especially dangerous behind-the-wheel activity. Stay away from mixing alcohol with driving, and be particularly careful right now in the midst of football season. Don’t be seduced by bustling sport bars, exciting house parties, or your team’s victories: think twice before sipping an alcoholic beverage if you’re planning to drive later.
And also, be a good and thoughtful friend, and don’t let your fellow sports fans get behind the wheel buzzed.
So, if you are going to host Super Bowl party, consider a couple of things to organize and prepare before inviting your guests.
— Make sure all of your guests will have a designated driver. Help arrange shared rides with sober drivers.
— Collect the phone numbers of local taxi companies and other transportation services .
— Be prepared to take the car keys away from the most stubborn and insisting buzzed friends.
— Prepare plenty of food and non-alcoholic beverages and try to stop serving alcoholic drinks at the end of the third quarter of the game (just as they do it at the stadium).
— Remember that you can be held liable and prosecuted if someone you served alcohol ends up in a drunk driving collision. Adults who provide alcohol to minors could even face jail time.
If you’re planning to watch the Super Bowl at the sports bar, restaurant or at someone’s party, there are a few things that you should bear in mind to avoid drunk driving and ensure your safety.
— Arrange your transportation in advance (check public transit schedules, have taxi phone numbers, assign a designated driver).
— Keep an eye on your friends; don’t let them drink and drive.
— Buckle up. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of people who neglect these simple rules and get on the road while alcohol-impaired. Fastening your seat belt is your best defense against drunk drivers.
Enjoy the excitement of the big game and play it safe!
