I have postponed this process for nearly 20 years for the simple reason of agonizing over the horror stories I had been told about the DMV road test process. I decided to go to Cowell's because they offered flex scheduling and packages with car. From Start to Finish this was an easy, helpful and smooth process. The polite staff were super helpful and organized. My instructor Carmen was calm, easy to understand and on time for each lesson. I sat in on the 5 hour class with Chris who was entertaining and had many helpful tips. Passed my Road test first time with Carmen at the New Rochelle site. Highly recommend to all! thank you all to the staff and Carmen you are AMAZING!

It took me 5 lessons and some driving with me grandmas car when I passed my road test with Chris , he really is great teacher and likes to talk a lot which is good so you can learn how to drive and hold a convo without you losing focus and he is very encouraging. The Price is really good for what they give you .. like what can you ask for they pick you up from your HOUSE .. well I'm a license driver thanks to the Colwells :)

I took the 10 lesson package without having any prior experience to driving. I had an instructor named Julio who was awesome! He was always on time, attentive and gave great advice on how to pass the road test. When it was time to take my road test, I passed on my first try!

Chris, my instructor, was always prompt, cordial and attentive. He is clearly knowledgeable concerning what the student driver needs to know to be prepared for the road test.

I got my license at colwells the first time many years ago! I had an amazing instructor, for those of you who say they are after money or want more lessons, each person learns at their own pace no one can take the same amount of lessons and learn the same thing!

Thank you Colwells for your help. I recently passed my road test with them. I had already had some experience driving, I just needed to take 2 lessons to make sure I knew what to expect at the road test. I also chose to use their car for my test. Great prices. Very nice instructor. I will recommend to my friends and family who may need your help like I did.

I had a good experience with Colwells. They were nice when I came in to ask questions and then I signed up. I really liked my instructor. He did his best to help me learn and in the end I passed my road test. I've been driving for about a month now and I feel what they taught me is making a difference in my driving today. Thank you guys at colwells

I had a great experience at Colwells. My instructor Alana was very patient and made sure I had enough lessons to pass the road test. I didn't mind going because she was so cute. I passed my road test on the first try. I referred all of my friends to her. Colwells was definately worth my money. Thanks!!

I thank all the students who gave honest reviews both positive and negative. Remember when you read the driving manual, DMV recommends 20-30 hours behind the wheel. Here at Colwell's we do our best to teach you as much as possible in the time you give us. Some people do take a little longer than others to get the skills needed to pass the exam. We don not only teach you how to pass the exam though. Colwell's is also teaching you how to become safe, educated, responsible driver's, which will last your whole life. Please be careful with some of these negative reviews for both our school and others. There is no accountability or verification of who is writing the review ! Some reviews can easily be (and are) competitor schools wishing to tarnish the reputation of the school. Some may be legitimate negative reviews and I can accept that not every single person will be happy. I apologize to those students and wish there was something we could have done at the time to resolve the matter or compensate in some way. We are always willing to work with all of our students to make the learning experience a pleasant and productive one. Thank you, COLWELL'S

I plan on asking someone in Albany to come down and check this school out. My daughter said her 5 hr teacher smelled of booze in the class. I got his name because of the certificate so im sure some one will investigate. my daughter will not be taking any other classes there and i suggest you look around for something more professional.

Had my first lesson last night. It was great and I like my instructer. He is patient and he will help me get to where I need to be. We must realize that depending on your experience behind the wheel, you may need more lessons which will of course cost you more money. If my instructer tells me I need to take more than 10 lessons to teach me everything I need to know, I will do whatever it takes to get where I need to be. It's all about doing what you have to do to get where you want to be. That does not always come easy. My advice, dont rush to take the road test. Make sure you are ready. If that means pay more for more lessons, than so be it. Dont blame Colwell's. Blame yourself for not being willing to do what you have to do.

Response to UnSatisfied: Sorry to hear that you were unhappy. Too bad the thousands of happy students we've had over the years don't put reviews up here. For those who read the New York Driving Manual, you will see that DMV recommends 20 to 30 hours of behind the wheel driving before your test. If you are under 18 you are required to bring the form which shows you have had at least 20 hours of supervised driving. We understand that most students won't and may not be able to afford this amount of lessons. But 5 lessons is minimal and for those with extremely little driving experience, we recommend our 10 lesson package. If every student could pass with only 5 lessons, why does every driving school in the Bronx sell packages that consist of more than 5 lessons ?? We thank all of our students for their business with us and encourage and hope to receive many new students as well. You can always try at least 1 lesson with us before you commit to anything more. Safe driving to all. www.colwellsdrivingschool.com

i had 5 lessons with this school and was still unprepared for the roadtest because the instructor told me "I can't teach you all you need to know in just 5 lessons, you must scheduel more"

As far as prices we have been one of the last schools to raise ours and they are still a great value. All of our instructors our licensed by the DMV. Our goal is quality instruction for our students to become safe drivers. Our reputaton is very important. Opinions are welcomed, but any further lies from feedback based on unsubstantiated information, we will not hesitate to file a lawsuit for slander. There is a reason we have been in business for over 40 years and one of the bigger schools in the Bronx. We push ourselves to offer the highest quality service.

Didnt like this school. Seems like they were more interested in my money than helping me learn to drive.

Becareful with this school, its all about the money weather you learn or not. Make sure you get your 45 minute lesson and make sure the teacher is the real thing. Check with the state to be sure.
