My segment 2 class was nice and not terribly difficult. My teacher Mr. Z was very nice and a very good teacher, and made learning not to difficult, as it should be.

horrible instructors!!! My son went through driving instruction with a very short tempered instructor that was mean and impatient. We didn't address it with the company but now my daughter is going through Courtesy with her school and is finding that her instructor is even worse. He makes the kids cry during drive time, swears excessively. His behavior is very inappropriate and his language is inexcusable. Do not take class through Courtesy. I will be filing a complaint on behalf of my children and the ones he made cry during drive instruction.

Wow! If you want to pay $300 so your kid can fill out worksheets for three weeks while four different teachers sub for each other, then this is place is for you. What a waste of money. AND....this is coming from a high school teacher!

Mr. B.Dodson is a real jerk! Screaming at students is NOT the way to teach. My daughter was in tears when I picked her up from her 3rd drive. Watch out if you are using courtesy driving school at Rochester high school.

I went to the 17 1/2 road test at Pep Boys where everyone seems to have been having a terrible time. I was all set for the worst due to the bad experiences I read and it went great. The blonde woman was very professional and did her job. It seems everyone was angry becausr they were most likely making mistakes and they wanted her to baby them and care for them. Her job is to asses the driving ability of a person, not just let them slide by. All in all I would recommend this location

Took a road test with this company and it was a horrible experience. That blonde lady is the rudest person I've met and only cares for money not helping you. I was at my road test and I couldn't find my insurance proof so she charged me $25 I gave her $50 and I didn't realize she didn't give me any change back. The next week I scheduled another road test and told her about the change I was missing and she said that because she didn't write down that she owed me she couldn't go based off my word! Maybe I'm being petty but that was completely unprofessional. Also during the road test she made rude remarks at my mistakes basically yelled at me I was already nervous enough! At the end she didn't tell me ways I could've corrected my mistakes she just said how she was right about my mistakes and to work on it. I don't plan on going here again or recommending it to anyone. A road test instructor shouldn't make someone want to cry while driving!

      Ina K.

I won't recommend this driving company if you're planning to get a road test, don't get it from them even if it is free. Save yourself from insults and humiliation from the rude driving Instructor. Really rude by telling you things "do you know your right or left?", "do you know what is happening on the road?", "do you know how to read signs?". He's difficult to understand, I have to ask few times what he wants me to do. He is intimidating, annoying and impatient. He's also confusing, he would ask you to speed up and when you speed up he would say slow down. He also exaggerated the "mistakes" I committed during the road test, he claimed I'm on the wrong lane while being asked to turn left even though I'm in the correct lane but just a little bit over the white line (since I cannot see the road). He also lied claiming that he grabbed the wheel from me while I was asked to go to an exit - it was a blatant lie - he never grabbed the wheel. He also claimed I'm cutting over another's car which I didn't - I was slowing down and waiting for the other car to make the turn. On approaching the traffic light, the Instructor can already see that I'm slowing down, since he's rude - he's also breaking. I understand that the Instructors have to be strict in giving the road test, but being rude, lying and exaggerating the "mistake" is really not good! In case you would do the road test with this company, I suggest use your own car. Don't rent their car for the road test, you would pay $35 - and the car is really old (old because the seat won't pull forward to the way you need to and the seat cannot be raise) and the wheel is also wiggle (not properly aligned), I had difficulty controlling the car with the wiggly wheel. If you're petite like me, DON'T rent their car, I cannot see the road because of the seat issue. I complained about the seat issue as soon as I sat in the car. The Instructor is also inconsiderate, he could have done something when I complained I cannot see the road and my foot can barely reach the accelerator. I cannot believe I failed the road test, I've been driving for more than 2 years in and out of the State and outside the country. I hadn't got any driving tickets nor had gotten any car accidents. Old car and rude driving Instructor = failed road test!!!

      Third time failed

She, the blond woman in Pep Boys, is my nightmare each time I schedule a road test. She is rude, absolutedly. She yells on the examinees to make them nervous. I had not read the comments and reviews on her before I scheduled 3 road tests with her. The recent time I failed because of a small mistake as same as the previous time, but that's time she had said that that mistake is not a big one that directly makes me failed. The 3rd time, I am 7-month-pregnant, and she made me want to die...Terrible experiences only!!! I am a new comer to America, and just have settled down only more than a half year. She totally makes me wonder why American are so rude and cold. Actually, she seems to be the only person doing so!!!

      Disgusted customer

Do not use this company for any reason. The driving "instructor was extremely rude and unprofessional. For the road test you are to meet at a parking lot. Only the individual being tested in allowed in the car, which is fine but for the fact there is no place to wait. It was a torrential downpour. Soaked to the bone or wait in the 7-11 for an hour had the test continued. Instructor had no intention of conducting road test in the rain. Student must parallel park before going on the road. "Instructor" found fault where there was none. You have to pay her in cash up front. Wouldn't even give them 1 star if that was an option.

      New Driver

So I just had MY driving exam at the 17 1/2 Pep Boys location, After scheduling it and then looking it up and reading the comments on here... I was FREAKED. Especially when I pulled up and seen a Blonde haired woman in a Black Dodge truck (like the ones people have mentioned) I got there 25 Minutes early, Seen her with the window down so my Dad and I approached the vehicle (Please note that he even seen what people had said so he wasn't messing around). I got to the window and she was actually very friendly, I was surprised as everyone said she was rude. I did what she said. I did horrible on the parking part (backing in), I even hit a cone, She nicely told me, I will NOT tell you what to do. So I decided to redo it and she then had my parallel park and did perfect. So my nerves will still super high from this woman, BUT then I started driving and she was directing me where to go and I won't lie I did NOT do anything perfect..... and come to find out I still passed. This lady was NOT harsh on me. She seemed very laid back and understood my nerves. I would recommend her. Maybe I was lucky to catch her on a good day... Who knows.

I recently obtained my MC licence through Courtesy. I had 2 instructors, I for the theory and I for the practical. Both instructors were professional and courteous and had a wealth of industry knowledge even when I asked them dumb questions they were professional and answered my questions respectfully. I found the course both informative and very practical. There were no hidden charges on the price they quoted me and the course was completed in the time frame they said. I am now employed with the help of Courtesy

I went the ought courtesy I took my test in 17 1/2 mile at pep boys. The lady that administered my test was Kathy she had a black ford I arrived 15 minutes early I parked I didn't want to just walk up to the car I was unsure if it was who I was suppose to be looking for instead of getting out of her car she flagged me over and requested my registration permit and insurance and $50 she hands me a clip board says go back to your car read and sign this form than take your car to the blue line after the parking portion of the she gets in my "mothers" car and removes all of our air fresheners looks around then goes in the arm and throws them in there and slam it down and says "i feel like I'm just absorbing chemicals" you could not smell none of them they were old she yelled at me when I was already over to the right when a fire truck was coming saying do I wanna get over more but there where mailboxes and things right there she after the test was finish she FAILED ME one thing she said I was going 10 mph under the speed limit and 15 mph under the speed limit at one point of time which is ridiculously my parents and grandmother was appalled because they ride with me when I drive and I am a very cautious and good driver . I did read the reviews before making my appointment with them I don't like to judge a book by its cover until I have read it I will not ever recommend them I will be going to Jonnys and I will be calling courtesy to make a complaint about KATHY!!

The woman administering the road test was incredibly unfriendly. We arrived 25 minutes early, and saw her sitting in her truck. I didn't want to approach the truck, since we were so early. Perhaps she was not yet ready for us. The woman rudely waved my daughter over. My daughter and I then approached the truck. We said good morning, she said, "permit, segment 2 certificate, registration and insurance." My daughter handed that over along with the $50 cash for the test. She gave my daughter a clipboard and said, "go back to your car and you both need to read and sign this. And don't just sign it, READ it first. Then, pull your car up to that blue line." Well that was not a pleasant start, considering this woman never got out of her truck and spoke rudely to us. So, my daughter was extremely nervous, because this woman clearly was not going to be friendly. My daughter failed. Kids are nervous enough about taking the test. They don't need someone being rude and making them feel flustered. Sounds like she is the same blonde woman in the truck that others mention in their reviews. Do not schedule your toad test with Kathy.

My child attended Courtesy for both segments and the driving test. The instructors were horrible. Another student in the car was driving and the instructor slammed on the breaks to see what she would do on the icy/snowy roads. The car load of kids barely missed the ditch. The instructor also had several prescription drug bottles rolling around the back seat. Several other issues I had were that was that my child was told that they only needed to look one way, to the right, when crossing the railroad tracks because the trains only go one way???? We live in a rural area and there are not gates at every railroad crossing. They were also told that they really didn't need to yield at the round-abouts. Why are schools endorsing this horrible place? The one positive was the road test, that we did at Powell High School in Romeo. The instructor was very, very nice and encouraging. He talked my son through the whole test and made calm and helpful suggestions- A plus for this guy. But a big BOO on the rest of the crew~!

horrible, i do not recommend this place. all the materials are very old and falling apart, and if they do you have to pay them about 20$. the class time felt very wasted and boring, we pretty much sat there while the teacher talked on his phone. the actual drive time wasn't any better due to the very mean instructors, most of witch are retired and have nothing better to do than yell at nervous young kids.

I took my road test with Courtesy at the Pep Boys location at 17 & Van Dyke... we arrived to the test on time and there was a blonde-haired woman with a big red Ford truck, who happened to be the road test examiner. She was friendly at first... I guess, but she is probably the world's biggest deadbeat. I am black by the way. About 10 minutes into the test, she asked me, "What school do you go to?". I replied, "I go to IKE". She then responded, "Really!? You sure don't look like an IKE kid!".... is there some certain look that IKE kids have? My dad almost said something to that bitch too. Anyways, I ended up passing the test and she was like "I thought you did OK, not that great". Needless to say, if you are looking for a place that is NOT going to make you feel like shit, DO NOT SCHEDULE YOYR ROAD TEST WITH COURTESY. My friend was going to take his road test with courtesy but they had such bad customer service, they quit courtesy and took it with Jonny's Road Testing on 23 Mile and LOVED IT. Courtesy doesn't deserve anyone's money... just don't deal with it if you don't have to. Go to jonny's

This is the first part to the below complaint. I pulled in the Pep Boys of Sterling Heights and my daughter had her test with a "kb". As soon as we pulled up and parked next to this woman in a red ford pick-up she was rude. She gave us dirty looks! I walked up to her truck and introduced myself as the father and she said SO? I said I thought I would introduce myself since I was paying for the test. She said "then pay"! As I reached for my credit card out of my wallet, she starting yelling "if you would of read the instructions on the card that was sent, you would know

    • Published 12/31/2012 1:38 PM

my daughter asked her to repeat the instruction and she just sighed and walked away. Then when they were on the road test, she didn't give her instructions so she assumed she was suppose to go straight and she started screaming at her MERGE NOW, but there was a car in her blind spot and she screamed again, which almost caused an accident, she screamed I SAID NOW and then said oh god, because she waited for the car to go by before she merged! I highly suggest you think twice before going to the Pep Boys in Sterling Heights through Courtesy with this woman. She was rude, totally unprofessional (in appearance and interacting). This person made me nervous and I have a perfect driving record for the last 35 years, so you can imagine what it would do to a new driver! Fyi - 1 week later, I took my daughter to American Driver Testing, she passed and the instructor said not only did she pass, but she's a very safe driver!

My son had his road test with Courtesy in Sterling Heights. The instructor was awful. She did not introduce herself, very unfriendly and sat in her truck giving little or no guidence for the first part of the test which is parking. She did not explain how the test would take place which part he would do first etc: She behaved like a traffic cop writing a ticket. She even had me nervous from her behavior. Needless to say he failed immediately because he was only allowed one tine to manuveur the vehicle, each time he backed up she counted points against him. Many parents warned me about going thru Courtesy. I will find another test facilty that makes young drivers feel comfortable.

It was very easy to pass... Way to easy, the teachers are completely unaware of what went on in the class room. That includes CHEATING, on every test I noticed that every single one of the 20 or more students in my class had their phones out looking up answers, or just simply asking people next to them. Everyone in that class was my friend, but I know that they are all dumb as hell yet they all passed, no problem. The second thing was the in class work. Rather then asking us questions and having us the students to answer them, our teacher just gave us multiple choice sheets and just said...A...C...B....A.....D. It was rediculace, we learned NOTHING. I even asked the teacher once why he doesnt have us answer the questions, he just said we need them to study for the tests.... The test that everyone cheats on the WHOLE time and never once got caught. Even the 50 signs test was a breeze, I pulled out the book that they give you at the begining of the segment and copied down every single one. Our desks were COMPLETEly cleared, nothing but the test was allowed on our desk, yet I sat in the front row, layed my book straight on the table and never looked up, I got away with it 30 minutes of straight cheating. And that's what everyone els did as well. We all knew there was no point in studying to pass the test not one person got caught. But back to the worksheets, the last day of class he asked us to get out all of our worksheets. He came by and collected our sheet, then threw them ALL AWAY, straight to the garbage. I later remembered, I never put my name on a single one of my papers... Yet here I am 5 months later with my permit and 30 hours of driving finished. The bottom line is ANYONE can pass this class, so this is a message to all teens looking for a place to take drivers Ed. GO TO COURTESY THERE IS NO WAY YOU WILL FAIL

First off, the instructor sat in her car until about 5 minutes after scheduled road test even though we were 20 min. early. When she finally got out of the truck, she was yelling at someone on her phone and complaining about having to go do some work. Next, she insulted my car (I wasn't the one taking the road test, this person just made me that mad!) Saying something about "couldn't you clean up a bit first?" I didn't realize an empty pepsi bottle on the passenger's side floor was offensive considering I came home from work in a rush to have someone use my car for the road test. Having been to other road tests with other friends in the past, I know they are supposed to check headlights, tail lights, horn, etc. before even beginning road test. The paper work we received even said they need to do this. She did not check anything. Next, time for road test...she said he was driving too fast (under speed limit) because "what if the roads were wet?" Well road tester, since the roads are dry and it's sunny, why is this an issue? Next, "braking too hard at a yellow light" So would it be better to run a red light? Overall just very rude and unhelpful. When I called to complain about the service I was told a manager would call me back...waiting on that one to happen. When I explained the rude and unprofessional road tester the woman on the phone asked what her name was (something with a K) but didn't apologize or anything for the inconvenience of having such a rude road tester. When I explained that she also didn't do said safety check, she tried to convince me that yes she did. How could she possibly know that when she wasn't there? Very interesting. She claimed that she looks for that as you pull into parking lot. as we pull into parking lot (headlights off) you can see both turn signals at the same time, the brake lights, and hear the horn. Nope, not so much. DO NOT GO HERE! I wish more people would be honest about their service from this company. Had to give one star to publish or would give none at all!

I would give this company “zero” stars if that was an option. I administer FAA Pilot Flight exams for a living. I have issued over 1000 pilots licenses. I know how nervous applicants can be. Check-ride-itis we call it. The first responsibility of an examiner is to the place the applicant at ease. We arrived 10 minutes early out of respect. We didn’t want to keep the examiner waiting. When he arrived and opened the cones for us to enter the test area I got out of the car and introduced myself. He looked right through me; no acknowledgment or hello. He just barked “pull your car up to this blue line” I asked if he wanted me or my son to do it as we weren’t clear on his intentions he growled slowly “P U L L T H E C A R U P T O T H E B L U E L I N E.” This examiner treated us like we had committed a crime; he was very hostile. He turned his back and went over and sat in his van for approximately 10 minutes. He then got out and started setting up the course. My son said “maybe we should say hello again.” I replied “he seems in a pretty bad mood and doesn’t seem like he wants to.” Whereby my son said “well let’s try to be friendly again maybe we caught him off guard.” I thought “my son is wiser than I am” and said “sure, let’s say hello again.” We tried to greet him again… I said to him “hi… can we help with anything?” In a harsh, loud voice he ORDERED my son and me back in the car, bordering on hysteria like a police officer who is nervous that he has pulled over an armed felon. He barked at us without any sign of acknowledgement or respect. He commanded “GET BACK IN THE CAR” to me then to my son who had also gotten out of the car “GET BACK IN THE CAR”. Then he looked at me again and ordered “YOU, GET IN THE BACK” turned and walked back to his van. He put enormous pressure on my son before the test had even begun; we didn't even know his name. We never found it out either. I opened the right rear backdoor, kneeled down and said to my son, sitting in the driver’s seat, “I’m not comfortable with the way the guys behaving.” He said he wasn’t either. I then asked if he was “OK” with me pulling the plug on this test; he said "yes, definitely yes." Now here’s a normal 16 year old who wants his license so bad he can taste it... but he was “just fine” with not taking his exam with this examiner. I closed the door. Walked up to the examiner and told him that he was rude and hostile and that I wasn’t going to allow him to subject my son to his dreadful attitude. We left and I called the school to issue a complaint. I don’t think they took me seriously until I said “I’m not calling to get a discount or any consideration at all. I’m calling to say how badly your examiner behaved and we won’t be back.” I cannot recommend Courtesy Driving School on any level.

Absolutely terrible. You would think the instructors would be more polite being 15 minutes late, but giving you a nasty attitude during your entire drive. Honestly, I did Courtesy segments 1 and 2 at different places. Both times the instructor was a d-bag and the road tester was unclear and had an attitude problem. I failed their test because "the light was red" when clearly it was yellow and I had no option but to go through as it just turned yellow. The current two stars is too much for them, even one star is...

First off, the teacher @ LCMSN is "Westenberg" or something like that. Either way, hes a total d-bag. I found a coupon online for $10 and my classes were 3 weeks sooner than the other driving schools around. I really liked my teacher, he took his time to make sure we were all scheduled for drives and reviewed the final with us. I definately rated Cortesy 5 stars because the price was awesome, the instructor was great (sans Westberg who wasnt the in class teacher, just a driver), and I received my certificate on time and got my permit and am driving. +1 for Courtesy!

Horrible. so boring and such a waste of time. instructors don't go over enough and are really stupid when it comes to tests, everyone was cheating the whole time.

i just finished the classes at lcmsn and it sucks sooooo bad. yea the old man named weisenberg or whatever is a bastard. first of all he doesnt teach you anything. when i first got in the car, he asked if i knew how to drive, and i said no. but he still made me go out on the streets right away. he sucks so bad. then he was yellling at me for not using the signal. he was like "how many times do i have to tell you to use the signal!!!". dude, it was my first time!!! what a fag. and courtesy is gay, because he's been complained about before, but they wont fire the jerk. he didnt even yell at me for driving incorrectly most of the was mostly cuz i didnt know what street we were on and i couldnt find my neigborhood from there. he is a fagggggg

I took segment one snd two from this place seg one was okay but segment two was a waste of my time and my money. I am a teeneager and the fist class we were supposed to watch a movie the tv didn't work so we basically sat there for two hours. The second day of class we went over a few things with the instructor saying this is the answer for # -- on the testand we weree let out early. The last day of class was a test so to speak one girl actually failed it they let her take it over again right there with kids around her telling her the answers like I want to be on the road with her are you kidding??? Every day we were let out early not a great course for seg 2.

Never Use Them EVER!! I took a road test with a women who didn't want to be there and treated me awful the whole time. The roads were too snowy to drive on for a newer driver taking an exam but she took me out and failed me. Don't use them EVER!!

I took segments I and II and the road test through Courtesy Driving School. I feel they did an awesome job of preparing me to be a responsible, cautious driver. The instructors are very organized and knowledgeable and they made the classes fun and interesting. I highly recommend Courtesy Driving School to anyone looking for an excellent driver's education experience.

My daughter took Sg.I, Sg.II and her road test with Courtesy. I found that they offered a huge varietyof class dates, times and locations. The price could not be beat. I will be using them again for my other children.

I went through courtesy to learn to drive, and didn't. The instructor doesnt pay attention during your drives and I feel it is unsafe...Also, i was never taught how to park. During class, the instructor didn't teach and hardly even spoke to the class..we did book work every day and for the last test to get our permits, the answers were in the book and he even announced some. It's careless, they just want your student's money.

The tester had the worst attitude. I would not recommend them to anyone. I would be complaining about them to the BBB

Schedule were extremely flexible. Plenty of opportunity to drive. If you failed, you are not ready for the road. Sorry. Great school. Hard instructors. Would recommend Courtesty highly. Don't expect to pass if you're not prepared and have not done your practice.

HELL no. they fail you for the most retarted things. i was failed because i turned left on a blinking red light when there was a car about a quarter mile away. the testers are ridiculously rude but some of the instructors are really nice i guess

The material used in class are outdated by 10 years. They charge $3 for book rental and no receipt is given also not in the contract. IRS should check them out. Cars in need of service. Dave Semrau the owner doesn't give instructors enough gas money. This is a shady operation and should be investigated.

After our experience with Courtesy Driving school - I will be reporting them to Michigan's Better Business Bureau. The company's lack of systems, business practices, and untrained personnel has cost us both time and money. Strong recommendation to find another driving school

Mr. Gilich is great. Learned more from him on the road than from classroom teacher. The company is bad but Mr. G. is a great teacher

This school had the poorest attitude in instructors that I have ever seen. The kids were bored and I would not recommend it to anyone. The driving experience was bad. The instructor didn't teach in the car and the kids were afraid of him.

If I only knew what I know now. This company does not have enough driving instructors for the number of students in a class. Your child could end up trying to complete their driving requirement up to six weeks after the classroom time is completed. It was a poor experience.
