This school sucked. I was promised I would have all of my driving hours by April 2011. I continuously called to get hours and either couldn't get through or was told they didn't know their schedule yet. I needed my license in order to keep my job and had to get it without completing the driving hours. After I got my license I continued to try to get hours so I could get the certificate so my insurance wouldn't be so high. When my mother and I tried talking with Tom about getting hours or reimbursement so I could go to another school, he went on such a rant about how great his school was and something about being an ex-cop. We left without my getting any driving hours or any reimbursement. We just couldn't stand another second of his rambling. I never got any hours, they went out of business and I didn't have the money to pay to another driving school. So, being a young, new driver I am paying almost 2800.00 a year for car insurance on my piece if crap car.

Wood's car were vandalized on Halloween and went out of business. My son got his hours scheduled at Quincy Auto School and they also explained how to put everything together for his certificate. Very helpful and great reviews on line. Call them at 617-773-6555. Wish I went ther to start.

Call the RMV, all schools in MA are bonded for $10,000 for situations just like this.

      Frustrated parent

I cannot believe this school hasn't been shut down for its deceptive practices. We chose Woods because the classroom session fit our schedule. Little did we know tring to get driving hours is like hitting the lottery. The sign up system is ridiculous. On Halloween all their cars we vandalized and un-useable. It has been almost a month with no new information and no communication from the owner. Phone calls are not returned. It looks as if we are going to have to start all over with another driving school and sue Woods for reimbursement. I have never seen a business run so poorly. DO NOT SEND YOUR SON/DAUGHTER TO WOODS- YOU WILL REGRET IT!!

      Annoyed & amazed

It is amazing that this school can't be shut down for their incompetence. My child failed road test twice and the pathetic part is he said he learned more driving skills from me. It takes over a year to get your 12 driving hours with this school. While it took my first child half the time through another driving school

I'm a current student at Woods. You're lucky if you learn 10 minutes worth in each two hour class, since Tom likes to go on tangents. Good luck booking driving hours; you ask them what's available, they say that they'll get back to you. Two days later they still don't know their own schedule. I probably won't get to the RMV road test by March 2012.

      Don't go here

This place suck. The class time is him telling stories most of the time. When it's time to take notes he does them really fast and says you don't need all of them when you ask him to hol on and the next day he'll be like where are your notes it's your fault for not taking notes. It took me forever to get driving hours. I had heard the instructors talking about this kid that they had that they held hours for but when I asked if they could hold hours for me they said they don't do that. They never answer any questions about driving. They don't say you're doing anything wrong until your last hour and they say you can either go take the test yourself or come back and pay us more. Tom is extremely rude and an asshole. Made fun of me all the time for what I wore. Just a bad place and bad experiences.

Impossible to get driving hours because Tom keeps teaching new classes week after week and cannot accommodate the students in the pipeline. A complete and utter disaster. Tom - are you reading this?????

      Go to AAA for Driving

What a waste of money. Its been 5 months and my child has only been able to get 2 driving lessons. Going to Old Colony AAA to finish driving hours. Beware! Woods Auto School is not worth any money you might be saving. REAL bad operation going on there!

Same complaint as below. My first child did not have this problem 2 years ago. My last two children will be going to another driving school. They have multiple excuses as to why nobody answers the phone.

      Angry Parent

The funniest part of this whole review is the comment from Woods below that the angry people -- all of whom have the SAME DAMNED COMPLAINT -- hard to get driving hours -- say that the people writing are not students, but some angry people from another school. See for yourself. They schedule driving hours by phone from 6:00 to 6:30 nightly. You can't get through. I'm contacting the state AG's office. This is total BS. My kid is paid in full and can't get his license because they won't give him any hours.

Please leave these comments up because they are accurate with regards to unavailable driving hours and I DID GO TO THIS SCHOOL. I am not mistaken this school for another school. The classes were ok but after that the nightmare begins. They don't have enough driving instructors. They NEVER have available hours. I have gone an entire month between driving lessons. They start you off with a few immediate lessons and then they make you chase them down to get a driving hour. I called the registry to complain and left 4 messages with driving dept to get them to approve a trasfer out of this school but they never called back. It took me 8 months to complete my hours. There needs to be a better system in place to trasfer out of a driving school once they can't provide the services needed. BEWARE: If you start your driving hours at WOODS AUTO and are unhappy with the service after you start you can not trasfer hours to another school without the registry of motor vehicles permission and they don't call you back. That is the only reason why all the students I know have not trasfered out once they started. Once you start, your STUCK!

do not go here. the two "teachers"are sarcastic and obnoxious. i dont know why anyone goes here. i did because i had a gift card and my parents are cheap. it is more expensive and takes forever to get driving hours done. do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to learn to drive.

Driving hours are impossible to make. You can only call on certain days, at certain times to obtain driving hours. When you do call, they simply tell you "we don't have any". It takes many months to schedule hours. there are many other driving schools that are more accomodating. They do not respond to e-mails or telephone calls.

This is by far the worst driving school on the south shore. I will tell anyone and everyone to stay away from there. My daughter is having an impossible time making driving hours, the staff is rude and obnoxious. The only thing they do well is taking your check. After the check is cleared, you are nothing to them. I will NEVER, NEVER recommend them to anyone. They should be shut down. My first child went to New England Driving School and I should have stayed there. A complete nightmare. Please beware and talk to your friends, they will agree.

      Mrs. Graham

I am dissapointed in the comments on this web page. Both my daughter and I took lessons at this school and we both have successfully obtained our driver's license. Everything that we learned we practiced. I only drove a few times prior to taking lessons and was a basket case. I will be fifty next year and it took longer for me to learn. I don't think my daughter or I could have achieved this hurdle if it had not been for the assistance of Woods Auto School. My daughter went to a different driving school and failed. Woods gave her back her confidence. We are both very greatful.

My son finished the classroom hours in November and it took him until the end of May to get all his driving hours in. They'll only schedule a couple a month for you. I have 3 more kids to go and I'd never return to Woods.

I chose not to write my name since I am still undergoing the process of trying to get driving hours. Let me say, however, that Woods is the single most poorly run school in the world. The instructors are rude, obnoxious and hypocritical. Attempting to schedule driving hours with the terrible staff has actually led me to tears of frustration on two occasions. To make a long story short, the only thing Woods has taught me about driving is to steer clear of 84 Commercial Street at all costs.

I was a student at your school and when I complained about the instructor being on the phone during the entire lesson you told me quote "it is beyond your boundaries to complain about my instructors". Being unhappy about this I asked about a refund and you said it was not possible. Once again I was A student you can look on your papers.

The only reason I gave them one star was because it wouldn't give me a negative option. They are rude, they don't care about anyone, and the time it takes to schedule driving hours is unbelievable. They tossed my son out of class and told him not to come back but didn't give us our money back. My son has a few medical issues and is not totally easy to get along with but he did go to another school afterwards where they did just fine with his problem. I recommend you ask your friends and neighbors about the places they might have gone. I know this is not the only place.

Awful. My wife took lessons from them, the owner - Tom is extremely rude and obnoxious. He tells students they will fail and they will get into a serious accident. He also needs to keep his hands to himself. He touched my wife's leg when they were on a lesson. I'm considering filing a harassment suit against him.
