There are times when non-driving residents of Colorado will need to show identification, and it'll be important to have an ID card sanctioned by the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles. Note: It is unlawful to hold both a state-issued ID card and a drivers license.

To apply for an official Colorado ID card, you must present proof of your full legal name, date of birth, and lawful residency in Colorado. A list of all acceptable proof can be found on the Colorado DMV Website.

Applicants requesting an ID renewal or duplicate need only show one form of identification. Occasionally the DMV will request additional forms of identification.

The Colorado identification card fee is $10.50 for applicants under 21 years of age. These applicants must renew their ID card on or before the 21st birthday. The fee is also $10.50 for applicants between the ages of 21 and 59. In this instance, the ID card is valid for five years. There is no charge for applicants over the age of 60 and the ID card will be valid for five years.
