Once you pass your driving test, you will be issued a minor drivers license. If you're under 18, your license will have the following restrictions:

• You are not allowed to carry a passenger under 21 who is not a family member until you have had your license for at least six months.
• You are not allowed to carry more than one passenger under 21 who is not a family member until you have held your license for at least one year.
• While you are under 18, you cannot drive between the hours of 12:00 midnight and 5:00 a.m. unless you have held your license for at least one year.
• While you are under the age of 17, when you carry passengers, everyone riding with you must wear their seat belt. Only one passenger can ride in the front seat with you. You can only carry as many passengers in the back seat as there are seat belts.

If you're a first-time driver older than 18, you must follow a similar process except for some minor changes. You don't have to complete drivers education or drivers training programs or submit any documents that refer to these programs. There will be no holding period for your instructional permit—you can apply for your drivers license the day after you receive a permit. However, you are strongly advised to practice driving before making driving test appointment with the DMV. All other tests and fees are required.
