Under 17:
While taking drivers education, your Drivers Training Permit allows you to drive with your instruction. Once you complete the course, your Drivers Training Permit will become a Supervised Instruction Permit which will allow you to drive with a licensed driver who is at least 21 years old in the passenger seat. You must hold this Supervised Instruction Permit for at least six (6) months during which time you must complete at least 50 hours (10 at night) of supervised driving practice.
This 6 month period is called the Supervised Instruction Period. If you are convicted of violating any traffic laws while you are driving under the Supervised Instruction Period (SIP), the permit will be cancelled and you must reapply for a new SIP. Your minimum six (6) months of supervised driving begins all over again with the issuance of a new permit.
Note: Once you turn 17 you must either apply for the drivers license or apply for an instruction permit. If you must not continue to drive on your Supervised instruction Permit and can be cited if you do.
