| 1. Study for the WY learners permit / instruction permit test |
In order to get the learners permit and eventually the Wyoming drivers license, everyone regardless of age must pass a written test on traffic laws and signs. Most people fail this test on their first try.
Pass the first time when you learn the rules of the road with DriversEd.com and prepare for the learners permit test with our Wyoming DOT practice permit tests. Our online practice tests can be purchased separately or are free when you purchase our online Wyoming drivers education course.
| 2. Apply for the WY learners permit / instruction permit |
Apply for the learners permit at a WY DOT location near you.
In order to be eligible for the WY instruction permit, you must:
- Be at least 15 years old
-
Present a state-certified birth certificate or valid US passport, state-issued identification card, or valid immigration documents.
-
Present a minor’s release signed by a parent or legal guardian (required for applicants under 18 years of age).
- Pay any applicable fee.
- Pass a vision test.
- Pass a written knowledge test.
Once you pass the test, you will be issued a learners permit which allows you, while having the permit in your immediate possession, to drive a class C vehicle for a period of 1 year when accompanied by a person at least 18 years of age who has been licensed for the type or class of vehicle being used for at least 1 year, who is fit and capable of exercising control over the vehicle and who is occupying a seat beside the driver. |
| 3. Practice driving under supervision |
Once you have your Wyoming learners permit, you will need to practice driving under supervision.
If you are under 17, you will need to complete at least 50 hours of supervised driving that will need to be certified by your parent or legal guardian. At least 10 of the 50 hours must be done at night.
DriversEd.com can help make the supervised driving period less stressful. Our Behind-the-Wheel Training Guide teaches important concepts and guides parents step-by-step through the process of teaching their teen to drive. It also comes with a FREE Passenger Side Rear-View Mirror which allows you to see exactly what your teen sees when behind the wheel. |
